Interested in Martial Arts for Your Child?
Why Martial Arts training is the best thing a parent can offer a child...
It encompasses mental, physical and character exercises. Each class is designed to use the martial arts as a tool for teaching important life skills in all three of these areas. Quest Martial Arts has classes for a variety of children's age levels. See which classes will be the best fit for your child...
Tiny Tigers (age 4)
Our Tiny Tiger class is designed specifically for preschoolers age four. Children develop cognitively at different ages, so it is critical that they have classes designed specifically for their level. This class helps students learn self-control, patience, and respect. Children learn life skills like keeping your hands to yourself, raising their hand to ask a question and answering "Yes Sir" and "Yes Ma'am" to questions. Yes, children, this young have a great time learning martial arts and the rules of conduct that are vitally important at this age. They also learn "Street Smart/Stranger Awareness" and personal safety skills in this class.
Little Dragons (ages 5 to 6)
Our Little Dragon class is taught age appropriate for this group's learning potential. Children this age need a class separate from children 7 and up because of the difference in their development. (A thirty-minute class is an optimum time for this age group). While learning self-defense, these children will have lots of fun in a curriculum custom designed to build their confidence along with learning respect and self-control. All classes are taught with a mental as well as the physical lesson in mind, and a class ratio of not more than one to eight is always maintained.
It's a scary world out there for kids, isn't it? Each day we ask our children to face challenges that were unheard of just a few short years ago. Overcrowded classrooms, peer pressure, bullying and obesity challenge even the brightest and most optimistic child. Then, when our children hopefully manage to remain physically safe, we can't help but feel alarmed - wondering if they are maintaining optimism and the self-esteem they had when they were younger.
Children at this age are beginning to be more independent. They are spending time with friends, at school, and can be in situations without their parents next to them. Therefore, they need not only self-defense skills, but life skill that will help them make good choices and be people of character. In our karate for kids program, they will learn how to prepare for challenges, set goals, deal with success and failure, get exercise and develop standards of excellence. They will also make a lot of friends and have fun.
And don't worry... we constantly stress to all students that martial arts skills:
- Require them to never be abusive or offensive; and,
- Are for self defense only.
